I'm Tania Rosas, a multicultural solo indie creator based in Dublin, Ireland. I believe creativity is a path to a richer life when you drop the "proper way" of doing things and dare to play.

From Corporate Life to Creative Calling

Like many, I once found myself navigating the corporate world, a path that felt distant from the vibrant artistic spirit I nurtured since childhood – a spirit that even led me to win a National Art competition at just nine years old in Panama! However, the journey back to creativity wasn't straightforward.

At 18, I almost pursued Fashion Design, and at 23, Graphic Design. But the daunting thought of building a portfolio, my own self-doubt about having 'what it takes,' and the pressure to choose a 'secure profession' led me down a different path: Information Systems.

While those years weren't spent actively creating art, I was constantly absorbing the world around me, unknowingly enriching my creative well with diverse influences from cultures, cartoons, video games, and fashion. And now, looking back, that detour into IT was a hidden gift. The skills I gained in technology are absolutely crucial in everything I do today, from mastering new drawing and animation software to refining my video editing techniques.

Because I'm largely self-taught, I've transformed what some might see as a disadvantage into my greatest strengths. That initial fear of not being 'as good' as someone with a traditional art degree has fueled my relentless drive to learn, made me incredibly resourceful at figuring things out, and given me the fearlessness to constantly experiment with new techniques, hobbies and interests.

This continuous evolution led to the birth of Tania Rosas Designs. My mission is simple: to build an original indie animated series, 100% owned and created by me, while sharing every experiment along the way. Every behind-the-scenes video and lesson I learn turns into free tools and resources designed to help you jumpstart your own glorious mess.

A World of Inspiration: My Global Creative Canvas

My artistic journey has been a vibrant tapestry woven from diverse cultures and a deep immersion in the visual worlds of cartoons, video games, fashion, and music. Growing up in Panama, my imagination was sparked by the energetic colours of local folklore, tropical landscapes, and Latin music rhythms, paired with the captivating narratives of Disney classics, Nintendo’s Mario World, and old-school anime. These early influences shaped my understanding of character, movement, emotional expression, and rhythms.

My move to Europe expanded my creative horizons in a whole new direction. Living in Geneva, Switzerland, and later in the French village of Ferney-Voltaire, I fell in love with cartoons adapted from classic French-Belgian bandes dessinées. I grew up watching animated series like Hergé’s Tintin, Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny’s Asterix & Obelix, and Albert Barillé’s Once Upon a Time..., blending all these distinct visual styles into my own personal melting pot. This period also introduced me to the lively energy of artists' street markets, much like the People's Art event I'd later participate in in Dublin.

As an adult, I discovered the name for the movement that captured my heart most of all: the Marcinelle school. The vibrant line work, kinetic motion, and expressive energy crafted by masters like André Franquin (Gaston), Peyo (The Smurfs), and Morris (Lucky Luke) deeply shaped my artistic direction. Coupled with a lifelong passion for hand-drawn 2D animation and the atmospheric art styles of 2D indie games like Hollow Knight, these influences form the core of my visual identity.

In Germany, I listened to a lot of international rock and learned to infuse meaning and logic into my process, a discipline invaluable for concept art, sound design, and making intentional choices.

Finally, settling in Ireland, everything clicked. The verdant landscapes and rich storytelling traditions of the Emerald Isle provided the perfect backdrop for my mixed influences to truly converge. Here, amidst the freedom to express myself fully, my unique style, a blend of global inspirations, diverse artistic mediums, and a touch of joyful whimsy, truly blossomed. Every piece I create, from intricate animations to playful designs, carries a whisper of these varied worlds, inviting you to discover your own creative spark.
